English Resource Centre, Pekanbaru
The ability to speak English is highly valued in Indonesia and is now taught in schools and universities throughout the country. One problem that many face is the lack of opportunity to practice what they are learning, outside of the classroom. The English Resource Centre in Pekanbaru, Riau run by local partner charity Yayasan Pendar Pagi (YPP) is a response to the need for improved English competence. It provides:
- Informal discussion groups facilitated by fluent English speakers that help students develop their speaking and listening abilities, and exposing them to a wide range of vocabulary, idioms and colloquial expressions.
- Monthly special events to build community, share information about different cultures, and develop students’ interpersonal and public speaking skills.
The centre aims to see each person that attends improve their English language skills, both listening and speaking, by interacting with our native English speakers and English-speaking Indonesians so that each student will attain good fluency and maximize their potential to realize their dreams.
