[sic]\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8211; President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), at the 2016 International Conference on Family Planning (<a href=\"https:\\setkab.go.id\\en\\president-jokowi-healthy-family-will-create-good-quality-generation\" target=\"_blank\">SetKab<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The above quote was recently used in the introductory\nsession of the <em>Batu Pertama <\/em>parenting\ncourse. <em>Batu Pertama <\/em>means\ncornerstone (or founding\/setting stone). In building terminology, it is <em>\u201cthe first stone set in the construction of a&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Masonry\" target=\"_blank\"><em>masonry<\/em><\/a><em>&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Foundation_(engineering)\"><em>foundation<\/em><\/a><em>. All other stones will be set in reference to\nthis stone, thus determining the position of the entire&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Construction\" target=\"_blank\"><em>structure<\/em><\/a><em>.\u201d<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cornerstone\" target=\"_blank\">Wikipedia<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With that definition in mind, it is probably self-explanatory\nwhy <em>Batu Pertama <\/em>is the name of the\ncourse. The core principles of the course resonate with President Jokowi\u2019s\nstatement, as they are built on the premise that parents\/guardians are a\nchild\u2019s first teacher. Hence the main aims are to affirm the importance of the\nfamily, and why it matters; as well as to strengthen the capacity of parents\nand guardians to fulfil their role in caring for their family matters. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The topics covered are: Building a Harmonious Family,\nMother-Child Relationship, Developing Healthy Family Rhythms &amp; Practices,\nManaging Emotions, Parenting in this Digital Age and so on. We refer to these\nas some of the foundational building blocks of any family. Ones, which can\nassist in hopefully providing the best start possible for our children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Seeds workers in Jakarta are running this course as\npart of a new partnership with two kindergartens in West Jakarta. The core team\nfacilitating the course includes 6 parent volunteers, 3 from each kindergarten.\nThese volunteers are receiving in-course\/ \u2018on the job\u2019 training (via what is\nmodeled by Seeds workers, opportunities to be responsible for some elements,\nafter session feedback etc.). They will also have the opportunity to attend a\nmore focused training session once both courses are completed. The hope and the\nthinking behind this, is that in the future these volunteers will be able to\nfacilitate the course without the assistance of Seeds workers. Thereby, doing\nour part -as it were- to \u2018set a founding stone\u2019 in their communities. As the\nskills, and knowledge that they will attain will remain, and be developed\nfurther within their local communities, and possibly even beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We began with a quote from Indonesia\u2019s President, and\nit feels fitting to also end with one:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>&#8220;If families could nurture productive\nways of thinking and behaviour, we will be able to produce Indonesia\u2019s golden\ngeneration, a generation of winners, a smart generation, a creative generation,\nan innovative generation, a productive generation, and a visionary\ngeneration.&#8221; <\/em><em>&nbsp;<\/em>&#8211; President Jokowi, National Family Day 2016 (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.tempo.co\/read\/792027\/families-are-main-guardians-of-children-jokowi\" target=\"_blank\">Tempo<\/a>)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cOnly the healthy and prosperous mother, children, and family can create generation that have great quality, character, and personality, also care for others.
