{"id":977,"date":"2019-08-12T17:36:04","date_gmt":"2019-08-12T09:36:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/seedssg.com\/?p=977"},"modified":"2019-08-12T17:37:06","modified_gmt":"2019-08-12T09:37:06","slug":"perceived-felt-needs-verses-actual-felt-needs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/seedssg.com\/site\/2019\/08\/perceived-felt-needs-verses-actual-felt-needs\/","title":{"rendered":"Perceived Felt Needs verses Actual Felt Needs."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Programs need to stay relevant to the ever-changing felt\nneeds of a given society.&nbsp; Understanding\nthe culture that we are serving from a sociological perspective is a crucial\nelement to staying relevant with the actual felt needs of the times.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Socio- Economic and Education Development within a given\ncontext succeeds by employing a meaningful solution that meets actual felt\nneeds of the local people.&nbsp; When\nforeigners introduce solutions to a society that are \u201cperceived needs from the\nperspective of the foreigners\u201d the programs and solutions often miss the mark\nof the actual felt needs of the society.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the common misapplied felt needs in the Riau\nProvince that Westerners often site as a \u201cproblematic\u201d is the perceived problem\nof littering and overall lack of cleanliness.&nbsp;\nWhen in reality, the local perception of littering as a felt need would\nrank very low from the mindset of the Melayu people living in the Riau Province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"864\" height=\"576\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/seedssg.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Afbeelding1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-978\" srcset=\"https:\/\/seedssg.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Afbeelding1.png 864w, https:\/\/seedssg.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Afbeelding1-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/seedssg.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Afbeelding1-768x512.png 768w, https:\/\/seedssg.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Afbeelding1-250x167.png 250w, https:\/\/seedssg.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Afbeelding1-624x416.png 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 864px) 100vw, 864px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In order to stay relevant with the projects being offered, SEEDs\nworkers realize that continuing education is necessary to take programs\nforward. SEEDs is actively promoting this type of growth for its employees by\nencouraging Masters level studies in Sociology (with a concentration in\ncommunity growth and development) in one of its project areas, Riau, Indonesia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Investing in the future by preparing future leaders to take\ncommunity development goals forward is the main focus of this program. The focus\nof the research is aimed at how modernity and intercultural interactions among\nvarious people groups affects the identity and solidarity of the Malay culture\nfound in the Riau Province. Within the next year, this thesis research will be\ncompleted and SEEDs workers will have a better perspective of the real felt\nneeds of different people groups in the Riau province.&nbsp; <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Programs need to stay relevant to the ever-changing felt needs of a given society.
